Abstract Text:

A connectivist massive open online course (MOOC) is created to introduce concepts of genetic counseling. Genetic counseling provides information on methods to improve the performances, health and well-being of future animal generations.  The course is organized in two key modules:  (1) fundamental principles of genetics, epidemiology, statistics, evidence-base medicine and communication and (2) application of the principles to case studies. The MOOC was preceded by an online forum within the community of the University of Liège.  The MOOC learning environment is based on four major types of activity (eg., course reading, data collection, creation and work sharing) and included several tools (eg., forum discussions, automated feedback).
