Variations Of The Melanocortin 1 Receptor Gene Associated With Partridge Phenotypes In Wenchang Chickens

Abstract Text: Thirty variations were identified in the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) gene by sequencing 445 individuals of 14 chicken populations. Several Partridge phenotypes are observed in Chinese native Wenchang chickens. Data shows that the variations of MC1R are correlated with the Partridge phenotypes in Wenchang chickens.  It was concluded that site- 883 of the MC1Rgene might give pivotal impacts on the eumelanin synthesis by comparing allele distributions in chickens with Partridge color plumage.
