Call for Papers

ASAS 2018 Southern Section Meeting

Saturday, February 3, 2018 - Tuesday, February 6, 2018

Fort Worth, TX

Deadline for new submissions: Sunday, October 8, 2017

Submission Restrictions

Due to space restrictions, submissions are limited. Space limitations allow a maximum of 400 words. Abstracts that are too long will be rejected automatically by the system. It is recommended that all abstract components (title, body, and table) be copied directly from a word processing file. The formatting and special characters will carry over directly into the abstract system.

If your abstract includes a table please limit the table to a maximum of 8 columns and 10 rows; keep this in mind when formatting the table. Tables that are too wide are not printable, and will be removed from the abstract at the production stage. Please note: In order to maintain the proper structure of your table in the abstract system, please create it in Word using the table function.

Graduate Student Competition

Abstracts will be submitted as described above. All Graduate Student Competition Abstracts will be presented in the most appropriate regular scientific session. Dependent upon the number of submissions, the Awards Competition Committee will sort the abstracts into Ph.D. and M.S. degree candidate sections based on scientific merit for presentation in the 3-minute thesis competition. Contestant must be the senior author and cannot hold academic rank above assistant professor. Rules and guidelines on the awards competition will be sent to each selected participant and their eligibility verified with the appropriate department chair/head. Persons who have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in previous Awards competitions are ineligible. Awards of $200, $150, and $100 will be presented to the top three places, respectively.

Undergraduate Research Abstract Competition

Students classified as either a Junior or Senior at the time of submission and from institutions in the Southern Region with degree programs in Agriculture are encouraged to present data from their research efforts. Abstracts should be submitted as described above. University verification that the student is enrolled at the time of the abstract submission will be requested from the student's department head/chair. Note that the author may be enrolled as a graduate student at the time the paper is presented. The abstracts will be reviewed by the Teaching and Undergraduate Education Committee. Awards of $200, $150, and $100 will be presented to the top three places, respectively.

Teaching and Undergraduate Education Abstract

In addition to abstracts submitted for the Undergraduate Student Presentation Competition, the committee calls for abstracts that support and advance the scholarship of teaching and learning. Contact the committee chair with questions about abstract appropriateness.
